A reading layer, not a copying machine.
Folio Fellow is intended to help people read lawfully obtained books. It must never be used to distribute protected works or circumvent access controls.
Launch draftThis document describes the intended product policy. Before commercial launch, it must be reviewed against the final business identity, infrastructure, contracts and applicable law.
Our hard product boundaries
- No DRM removal, decryption or instructions for bypassing protection.
- No import of encrypted vendor containers without an official partner route.
- No public book links, shared full text or download feature for other users.
- No AI answers that reconstruct substantial parts of a book.
- Allowed: personal passage explanations, short quotations, personal notes and permitted open works.
Shops and platforms
A search result provides metadata, previews or purchase links. A button leading to Kobo, Kindle, Google Play Books, Apple Books or another shop does not mean that Folio Fellow can access the purchased file. Import requires a permitted export or official API.
Public domain and open licences
Copyright status may differ by country. Even when a source labels a work as public domain, the user remains responsible for lawful local use. Source, licence and territorial warnings are preserved where possible.
Reporting and enforcement
Before launch, rightsholders must be able to send a substantiated report to rights@foliofellow.com; that address must first be made operational. We intend to operate a notice-and-action process with acknowledgement, assessment, temporary restriction where needed, decision records and an opportunity for the user to respond.
Repeated or serious infringement
Access may be restricted or terminated where there are credible indications of systematic infringement, subject to applicable legal rights and a proportionate assessment.
